-We would like to welcome Kevin Jenkins into our second grade class this week! He is no stranger to the class since he attended preschool and kindergarten at Blessed Sacrament a couple years ago! Welcome back Kevin!

-Catholic Schools Week begins this week, starting Monday, January 30^th. Monday is Teacher Appreciation Day! We will have “Beach Blanket Bingo” in the afternoon. Tuesday is Student Appreciation Day! We will have a bagel breakfast for the students as well as the Annual Teacher vs. 8^th Grade Volleyball Game in the afternoon! Wednesday is the V.I.P Lunch. Students may invite one guest to have lunch with. Our lunch period will be from 11:00-11:30 a.m. Flyers with the information went home on Friday to sign up. Thursday is the Living Wax Museum to celebrate Black History Month. On Friday the 8^th graders will play the role of teacher, principal, and secretary from 8:20-8:55 a.m. We will also hold a prayer service at 11:00 a.m. Father Bradley will come over to each class to bless the children’s throats for the Feast of St. Blaise.

- Wednesday will be the last day to bring in items for the animal shelter for our service project!

- Friday, February 3^rd is a half day.

-Don’t forget about Fabulous February tickets!!

-We are continuing cursive writing. The students are doing a great job! I am very pleased!

Reconciliation Retreat Day for students (in school): either Wednesday Jan. 25th or Thursday Jan. 26th.

Reconciliation Parent and Child meeting with Fr. Vo: Monday Jan. 23rd at 6:30pm in school gym.

First Reconciliation: Thursday Feb. 9th at 1:30 pm in Church.

Eucharist Parent and Child meeting with Fr. Vo: Monday Mar. 12th at 6:30 pm in Church.

First Eucharist: Sunday May 6th (time to be announced).

Miss Dooley will also have a note coming soon with verified dates and times for the parents of these children.

Grade 2 Service Project for January

Dear Students and Families,

This month the second grade class with be working on our service project. We have decided to help with donations to the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society. Below you will find a “wish list” of the things the Humane Society is looking for, taken right from their website. If you have any donations, you may bring them down to the second grade classroom. We will be collecting items all month, and at the end, Mrs. Wilson will deliver them to the Humane Society.

Properly sheltering and caring for animals requires a large range of equipment and supplies. Each item you donate helps us direct our financial resources to services and programs. Bold lettering indicates where the need is greatest, but all items on the list are appreciated!

Thanks to your donations, we typically have a surplus of dry dog and cat food. But we always need wet food!

Please note:
The shelter is not currently in need of linens or large/thick blankets. We cannot accept comforters due to storage space restrictions.
We do not accept food labels from Dad’s or Friskies cans or any other kind of label (except Fresh Step Paw Points). We are also unable to use manufacturers’ coupons.
We no longer accept used toner cartridges for refund; the store changed their policy on these returns. But thank you for thinking of us!

Don’t forget to begin your Fabulous February fundraising! This year we have a class goal, just like all of the other classes…..our goal is $400, which is managable, so let’s work together and get it done!!

First Day!!!!

Hey everyone! We had a wonderful first day! The children went about their day interacting with one another as if they never left for the summer. Behaviors were good, and I am confident we will continue that way…and the children were enthusiastic about being in second grade:)

I am sorry that my “Welcome Letter” did not come home today. We had an issue accessing the gym because the floors were not dry, and this morning there was a problem with the copier. However, I have them copied and they will be in your child’s folder tomorrow! Please check their folder each night and be sure to empty out the things that should stay home, and return the items that are needed.

Thank you for your support and cooperation, and I look forward to working with you this year! If I did not see you today, I am sure I will see you real soon!!! Welcome back:)

2nd Grade Supplies for 2011-12

Dear 2nd grader and family,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer and are preparing for the school year ahead. Here is a list of supplies you will need (in case you want to get started)

2 black & white composition notebook

2 dozen sharpened yellow pencils (Ticonderoga sharpen best and last longest)

5 plastic pocket folders (a different color each if possible…plastic last longer than paper)

3 larger pink erasers

1 3-pk box of Kleenex

1 soft zipper pencil case (for crayons)

1 hard snap pencil case (for pencils, erasers, glue)

1 pair of safety scissors

2 box of 24-crayons

2 bottle of Elmers white glue

1 ruler (cm. & in.)

$10.00 in an envelope with your child’s name for special projects throughout the year

**Since Miss Dooley will be teaching the children religion to prepare them for First Communion, there will be an additional fee for supplies for special retreat days. Check back again for the amount.

NOTE: Anything else would be a desk distraction for the students. They tend to play with little trinkets inside of their desk when they do not want to pay attention, so anything extra that you choose to bring will have to stay in their backpacks unless they are using it.

**Be sure all materials are labeled with child’s name!!
